Freshmen Scholarships

Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College is pleased to announce the following scholarships offered to beginning freshmen who begin attendance in the fall semester.

Freshmen Scholarships

High School Seniors:

  • You must print the Counselor Verification Form.
  • Take the verification form to your high school counselor for completion
  • Obtain an official seventh-semester transcript (schools using block schedules should provide a transcript as of December 31) and a copy of your ACT scores from your high school
  • All information (counselor verification, transcript, ACT) must be received by the SKYCTC Financial Aid office by the stated deadline

Application Requirements for all Scholarships

  • Apply Online beginning November 1 for the following fall/spring semesters
  • Deadline for all applications is March 1
  • Scholarship applicants must have a FAFSA on file
  • Scholarships with a * means a separate application is required
  • All documents must be returned to the financial aid office

SKYCTC Scholarships for first-time students

Alice Benham Honorary Scholarship

  • Available to an incoming or continuing student with preference given to applicants having a 3.0 GPA or greater (high school or college) and/or the highest test scores (e.g.,ACT, Compass)
  • Eligible to full or part-time students
  • Priority will be given for financial need

Altrusa Olive Gillespie Scholarship

  • Available to female Warren County residents
  • Preference given to a non-traditional student, enrolled at least part-time
  • Selection will be based on financial need

Bowling Green-Warren County Contractors Licensing Board Scholarship

  • Available to students from Bowling Green-Warren County pursuing an Electrical or HVAC certificate or degree
  • Must complete FAFSA, priority will be given for financial need.

Donald R. Miller Scholarship

  • Student must be enrolled at least part time
  • Recipient must reapply each semester
  • Maintain 2.0 GPA
  • Selection will be based upon financial need

Laura Goad Turner Scholarship

  • Open to any student from Scottsville-Allen County
  • Student must be enrolled at least part-time
  • Selection will be based upon financial need

Fulfilling the Promise Scholarship

  • Available for a first-time SKYCTC student
  • Student must have a cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.5
  • Student must have completed the admission process at SKYCTC and be enrolled full-time

Kentucky Restaurant Association: Ready, Set, Achieve Scholarship

  • Available to an area high school senior interested in pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts at SKYCTC
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 high school GPA and have achieved required ACT or Compass test scores to be considered program ready
  • Applicant must have been involved in Consumer Family Science or Culinary Arts program during high school
  • Must provide three letters of recommendation
  • Must complete FAFSA, priority will be given for financial need

Meritor Scholarship

  • Available to Franklin Simpson High School graduates who will pursue a STEM-related degree (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) at SKYCTC
  • Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate involvement and overall good student character
  • Priority will be given for financial need
  • Award will cover 12 credit hours of tuition per semester plus student fees for one academic year, not to exceed $3,800. Scholarship is non-renewable

 Ronald Halcomb Memorial Scholarship

  • Student must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours) in the Collision Repair program
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall
  • Priority will be given for financial need

SKYCTC Faculty Senate Scholarship

  • Available to first-time SKYCTC students who have earned no more than twelve (12) college credit hours and have successfully completed high school or earned a GED.
  • Award(s) will be made to both full-time (at least 12 credit hours/semester) and part-time (at least 6 credit hours/semester) students based on availability of funds. Full-time recipients will receive the first half of the award for the fall semester and the second half of the award for the spring semester, if they have maintained at least a 2.0 GPA for the fall semester (not cumulative) and are registered for at least 12 credit hours for the spring semester. Part-time recipients will receive the award in the semester they are registered.
  • Must complete FAFSA, priority will be given for financial need.

SOKY Region Antique Automobile Club of America Scholarship

  • Available to SKYCTC students enrolled in the Automotive Technology and Collision Repair programs.
  • Students must be a Kentucky resident and enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours).
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall.
  • Must complete FAFSA, priority will be given for financial need

 KCTCS Scholarship Opportunities (* Click on scholarship for separate application)
Commonwealth Scholarship

  • Kentucky residents who graduate in the top 25% of their high school class
  • Must be enrolled at least part-time time are eligible to apply for this nonrenewable, one-year tuition scholarship
  • Priority is given to 2018 high school graduates; however, 2017 graduates may apply
  • Recipients may apply for a second-year award provided they have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours at SKYCTC and have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average
  • Award amounts vary per academic year

John T. Smith Scholarship

  • Available to African-American Kentucky residents who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and demonstrate a need for financial support
  • One-year, nonrenewable tuition scholarship can be pro-rated for less-than-full-time students
  • Recipients may apply for a second year award provided they maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher
  • Award amounts vary per academic year

Presidential Scholarship

  • These prestigious, nonrenewable scholarships are merit-based awards available to full-time students pursuing a diploma or degree
  • These scholarships are based upon academic excellence, past work performance, involvement in extracurricular or community activities, overall student character and/or financial need
  • Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.2 (high school or college)
  • ACT composite score of 21 OR a COMPASS sum of 171 points

KCTCS Workforce Development Transfer Scholarship *

  • KCTCS provides two $4000 scholarships to second-year students who plan to earn a degree from KCTCS and then transfer to a Kentucky public or independent four-year college or university
  • One additional $3000 scholarship is available to a first-year student and is renewable if the student maintains good academic standing
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics discipline, health professions, or applied sciences
  • Recommendations from Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College are forwarded to the KCTCS Scholarship Committee for final selection

Kentucky Colonels Better Life Scholarship*

  • At least one student in each of the 16 KCTCS college districts will be selected to receive a $2500 scholarship to cover tuition, books, and other educational expenses
  • Recipients must be a Kentucky resident
  • Must attend school full time, pursue an associate degree
  • Must be a single working parent with one or more children under the age of 12
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and potential for academic success
  • Demonstrate financial need not met by other sources
  • This scholarship is automatically renewable for the second year provided the student meets satisfactory academic progress criteria and remains enrolled full time

National City Book (PNC) Scholarship *

  • National City Bank (PNC) awards students $250 scholarships to assist with textbook expenses
  • Applicants must be from low/moderate income households
  • Recommendations from Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College are forwarded to the KCTCS Scholarship Committee for final selection
