Kentucky Medication Aide Certificate

Course Catalog - Kentucky Medication Aide

The Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA 100) course is offered at the SKYCTC Glasgow Health Campus during the Fall semesters. 

Course eligibility is based on an application being submitted from the employer on the your behalf. Long term care facilities recommend State Registered Nurse Aides for the KMA course based on attitude, interest, and sense of responsibility. 

Applicants must be currently employed as a State Registered Nurse Aide and have at least six months work experience within the last two years. 

You are not permitted to enroll into this course without this application submitted on your behalf. 

In addition to the application, SKYCTC requires official copies of high school transcripts or GEDs. 

Information pertaining to the course is sent to all long-term care facilities in Region IV (via email) over the summer.

Medicaid Nurse Aide Certificate

Course Catalog - Medicaid Nurse Aide

Nursing Assistant Skills (NAA 100) course is the 75-hour training course required to become a State Registered Nurse Aide.

Upon successful completion of the lecture component with a grade of C or better, you will then complete the clinical component.

Please note that this course is mandated to have 75 contact hours. You are not permitted to miss more than four hours of class time. There is a make-up day scheduled between lecture and clinicals for you to make up any time, four hours or less, that was missed. Please note that absences on clinical days are not permitted. Failure to attend a clinical day will result in failure of the course.

You must earn a final grade of C or better to be eligible to take the State Registered Nurse Aide exam.

The SRNA exam consists of a written component with 75 questions and a performance component of five skills. Upon successful completion of the exam, your name will be placed on the Kentucky Board of Nursing.

The cost of the exam is as follows:

  • Both (Written and Skills) - $115.00
  • Written Only - $40.00
  • Skills Only - $75.00

Debit or Credit Card is accepted to pay for the testing.

When arriving at the test site, you will be required to provide the following documents at every test appointment:

  • An unexpired state or federal issued photo identification
  • A non-laminated Social Security card

If you fail to bring both items, you will not be permitted to test.

Practical Nursing Diploma


  1. Apply to SKYCTC.
  2. Submit official transcript (high school and postsecondary work completed at other institutions).
  3. Qualifying placement scores or completion of required developmental courses.
  4. Proof of active status on the Kentucky Medicaid Nurse Aide Registry.
  5. Attend mandatory nursing orientation to complete nursing admission application.
  6. Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Exam for pre-admission.
Acceptance into the Nursing program is based on a selective admissions process.
  • Above average standing in high school or on the GED
  • ACT composite score of 20 or its equivalent on a nationally-normed preadmission assessment
  • Completion of 12 or more credit hours in the approved curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better from any regionally accredited college
  • Applicants with high TEAS Exam scores
  • First time applicants

Progression in the Nursing program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of C or better in each course and maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale).

Note: The Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) may deny a nursing graduate admission to the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN Exam if an individual has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony that involves acts that bear directly on the qualifications of the graduate to practice nursing.

Upon acceptance into the program, students will be required to provide the following documentation:

  • Immunization records
  • Tuberculin (TB) skin test - Annuallly
  • TB Risk Assessment - Annuallly
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR)
  • Criminal background check - Annually
  • Drug screening - Annually

    Academic Career Mobility (RN) Degree - LPN to RN Option

    6. Have an active LPN license and verification of employment for one year in the last three years.
