SKYCTC Student of the Month - Sean Mathos
Each semester the faculty of Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) nominate and vote on students whom they feel deserve to be spotlighted for their work in and outside of the classroom. One winner is chosen each month as the Student of the Month. The October 2020 SKYCTC Student of the Month is Sean Mathos, who is enrolled in Culinary Arts at the College.
Sean is a non-traditional student who is married with 3 children. He works full time and attends college full time.
“Sean comes in early to see what needs to be done in the kitchen, always has his homework done early, and stays after class if needed,” say Culinary Arts instructor Tammy Inscoe. “He is attentive, motivated, and excited to be in college,” says Inscoe.
Matos’ children and wife are also in school so they take turns on different days sharing the computer they have, so that each person can have time to do their homework and prepare for their classes.
“His enthusiasm and willingness to make sure that he and his family are getting an education are inspiring to me. I appreciate the effort he gives every day,” Inscoe says.
“I've always enjoyed cooking but didn't really get the passion for it until my mid 20's,” says Mathos. “I didn't think I'd be going to school, a 37-year-old married father of three, but better late than never. I'm so grateful I have the opportunity to do it and couldn't imagine a better instructor than Chef Tammy Inscoe. I've learned so much already from this program and look forward to what the rest of the year holds.”
We congratulate Sean Mathos for being selected as the SKYCTC Student of the Month.
