Ria was born and raised in Bowling Green and is currently a Student Ambassador at SKYCTC.

When asked why she joined Phi Beta Lambda, Ria explains, “I joined PBL because it is an opportunity for me to meet people, enhance my leadership skills, and strengthen my confidence. I also thought it would be a good way to help ease my transition from the classroom to the workplace.”

What does Ria like most about Phi Beta Lambda?  “I have enjoyed meeting people and being able to get involved outside the classroom,” she says.

Why does Ria recommend Phi Beta Lambda?  “PBL is a good way to get involved and meet people, and it can open doors of opportunity.  Also, PBL is a good source for networking that will last a lifetime and is a great support group to help you learn about business.”

Ria chose SKYCTC because her circumstances changed.  “I lost my job that I had worked at for 25+ years. I was offered the opportunity to attend SKYCTC through the Unemployment Offices and Career Center. I decided that I would go to school to obtain a HR certificate and enhance my skills. I chose SKYCTC because it is a smaller environment, and I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed. I am so glad I chose SKYCTC,” she says.

Ria is pursuing a certificate in Human Resource Management, which she will earn by Fall 2022. If the opportunity arises, she hopes to continue her education in the HR field by earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration, specializing in Human Resource Management.

As far as her career path, Ria explains, “I hope to find the right job at the right company with the purpose of helping employees understand their pay and benefits.”

Ria loves spending time with her family and attends any activities they are involved in.  She is married to Steve, and in November, they will be married 39 years.  She has two daughters, (Jacquetta Johnson and Jessica Hill) and five grandchildren (three boys - Zayden, Elijah and Ty’Lan and two girls - Noelle and Coralee).

Ria also loves traveling, shopping, and being adventurous when she travels.  A fun fact about Ria is that she enjoys ziplining!  She likes watching reality and game shows, and she and Steve attend Warren Central High School basketball and football games, since they are both alumni, as well as other sporting events.  They also enjoy trying different restaurants in Nashville.
