April’s PBL Member Spotlight features Sarah Hayter.  Sarah was born and raised in Bowling Green, is the youngest of three children and has two older brothers.

When asked why she joined Phi Beta Lambda, Sarah explains, “I met Mrs. Harris, and she offered me the opportunity to join Phi Beta Lambda. It was a no-brainer, since the club would offer me valuable skills, the opportunity to serve my community, and the ability to network, as well as make new friends!”

What does Sarah like most about Phi Beta Lambda?  “The thing I have enjoyed the most about Phi Beta Lambda has been the community service aspect. It is a great way to come together as a team and do something positive,” she says.

Why does Sarah recommend Phi Beta Lambda? “Phi Beta Lambda can help you gain confidence, make a difference, and also network for your future career. Plus, it is super fun and helps you stay more involved on campus!”

Sarah took advantage of the Work Ready Scholarship, which covers all expenses not covered by financial aid.  She explains, “I was able to pursue a degree completely debt free! This was a fantastic opportunity that I couldn't pass up!”

Sarah is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer and Information Technology, Information Security Track & Network Administration Track.  She and her brother will both graduate in May 2021, and her family is excited to see them graduate together!

Following graduation from SKYCTC, Sarah will be attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa for a dual-major consisting of a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies: Peace and Conflict Resolution and a BA in Korean for Professionals.  She plans to complete her Cybersecurity bachelor’s degree online but has not settled on a program.

Sarah would like to work in International Affairs, an NGO, or other charity organization.  “I hope to make a true difference in this world, especially for children living in extreme poverty. Children have no choice over what type of life they are born into, and many live without basic necessities or access to education. During my lifetime, I hope to see extreme poverty eradicated so that these children have a chance to thrive in the world.”

When Sarah has a few moments of free time, she likes to be outdoors and enjoys activities like walking, hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, and swimming.  When indoors, Sarah reads, watches Netflix, games online and likes learning new things.  Sarah has a beautiful calico cat named Olive, who enjoys “helping” her study!  A fun fact about Sarah is she can make a clover with her tongue!

Sarah concludes, “I will miss SKYCTC, but I am excited for what the future will bring!”  Congratulations, Sarah!
