Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) honored more than 300 candidates receiving more than 1,000 credentials (certificates, diplomas, and degrees) at the College's Commencement Ceremonies held Friday, May 6, 2022 held at the Sloan Convention Center.

To accommodate all the graduates, the college hosted three ceremonies.

"We honor each of our graduates for the hard work they put forth to achieve their career goals. We also pay tribute to the family and friends for their great support of the graduates, as well as to the SKYCTC faculty and staff for their commitment to student success," states SKYCTC President Dr. Phillip Neal.

The College's inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award presentation was announced at the 5:30 p.m. graduation ceremony honoring Mr. Roddy Grimes, President of Stewart Richey Construction.

Grimes is a true example of working one's way to the top. Following graduation from SKYCTC (formerly known as Bowling Green Technical College) with a degree in HVAC/Refrigeration, he went to work with Houchens Industries as a refrigeration technician and advanced to service manager. After four years with Houchens, he started his commercial business, Grimes Refrigeration. In 2000, he was recruited to Stewart Richey Construction as a Division Manager and promoted to Vice President in 2005. After nineteen years with SR, he was named President in 2019 and continues in that role today.

Grimes is dedicated to giving back to his alma mater by serving on the SKYCTC Foundation Board of Directors, where he helps to secure funds for student scholarships. He is also involved in the community by serving as a board member for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, Bowling Green-Warren County Licensing Board, and the Builders Association of Southcentral KY, where he was President in 2018 and Chair of the Registered Builders Committee in 2019. "Roddy serves as a great role model for current students in the technical trade programs at SKYCTC. We are proud to recognize him with the first Distinguished Alumni Award," said Heather Rogers, Executive Director of the SKYCTC Foundation.

SKYCTC graduates are well-prepared for the next step in their journey. Many graduates will enter the workforce at area healthcare facilities, businesses, industries, and organizations throughout South Central Kentucky. Others will continue their education and transfer to a four-year university.
