Maryan Mohamed November Phi Beta Lambda Member Spotlight

November’s PBL Member Spotlight features Maryan Mohamed. Maryan is originally from Somalia and now resides in Bowling Green.

When asked why she joined Phi Beta Lambda, Maryan explains, “I joined Phi Beta Lambda because I did FBLA in high school and wanted to continue to be a part of the organization in my college years as well. I also wanted to gain new experiences and be able to network with others.”

What has Maryan enjoyed the most about Phi Beta Lambda? “Being able to attend the National Leadership Conference in Chicago this past June.”

Why does Maryan recommend Phi Beta Lambda? “It’s a great way for all students, not just business students to be able to build and grow their career. There are many opportunities for members to network, build resumes, gain community service hours, and develop multiple different skills that will prepare you for your career.”

Maryan chose SKYCTC because of its affordability. “I am a first-generation college student and want to pay for my own college tuition, so I don’t burden my family. I am grateful that my college tuition is paid in full from my financial aid and scholarships. I am saving money to pay for WKU while I am attending SKYCTC.” she says.

Maryan is majoring in Business Administration (Management). She will be graduating from SKYCTC with her Associate in Applied Science degree in Summer 2023 and will transfer to WKU to earn her bachelor’s degree. Her expected WKU graduation date is Spring 2025.

When she graduates, Maryan wants to open her own bakery. From an early age, she has always had a passion and love for culinary arts. Maryan will use all her knowledge from her career path to (hopefully) have a successful business.

Maryan has three sisters and two brothers and is the youngest in her family. She is thankful for her family because of all that they have been through together. Her family shaped her into the person that she is today, and Maryan will be forever grateful. She also has Sam, a Russian Blue Mix cat.

Between work and college, Maryan barely has any free time. In the little free time she has, Maryan loves photography, hanging out with friends, baking, and traveling.

A fun fact about Maryan is that she lived in Alaska before moving to Kentucky. “The nature and all the wildlife that surrounds you is very beautiful. It is very relaxing and peaceful. I loved the snow. The only downside is the weather, as it can sometimes get into the negatives,” she said.

Congratulations, Maryan!
