Chef Camp 2017
Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) is hosting what has become an annual event for the summer, Chef Camp for Kids. This year’s campers, ages 8 to 12 years old, will learn cooking skills at the Culinary Arts center of the College. This year’s two camps run May 30th through June 2nd (first session) and June 5th through 8th (second session), Monday –Thursday from 8:30 am-2:30pm each day. The cost of the camp is $150 per child. The camps are held at the College’s Main Campus, 1845 Loop Drive in Bowling Green in the Culinary Arts program area.
The sessions involve cooking, sanitation, safety in the kitchen and nutrition, focusing on healthy eating and being physically active.
Also, the campers learn the history of chefs and cooking utensils and the need-to-know core subjects such as math.
During the session, the young people prepare dishes such as pizza from scratch, spaghetti and meatballs.
The equipment the students will use is different from what they use at home. The equipment is bigger, faster and hotter than the everyday appliances found in a normal kitchen.
Approximately 100 kids will take part in this year’s camps.
