Contest explores what's great about Bowling Green

Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon, along with community partners, on Wednesday launched a video challenge called This is BG that encourages residents to create a video showing their enthusiasm for Bowling Green.
It s an exciting opportunity to show the world what a great place Bowling Green is, Buchanon said.
The social-media based contest invites people to create a video, three minutes or less, about what Bowling Green means to them in an effort to build a sense of community as well as attract people to the area.
You don t have to promote just Bowling Green in this, Buchanon said. You can promote your team ... or your business. That s what keeps Bowling Green going, is your business.
The deadline to enter is Dec. 1, with winners to be announced Dec. 11. Contestants must upload their videos to either YouTube, Instagram or Vine and submit an entry form at www.ThisBG.com.
In all, $20,000 in prizes will be given away across eight categories: overall best video; best education video; best business video; best health/fitness/recreation video; best entertainment/music/arts video; best charity/nonprofit video; best 15-second or less video; and best video produced, directed, filmed or performed by someone 13 or younger.
There s something for everybody, said Jessica Kem, marketing manager at SKyPAC, one of more than 20 businesses and organizations partnering for the contest.
Another sponsor of the challenge is Yellowberri, which developed all the graphics, logos and videos promoting the contest.
The cool part about participation in this contest is anyone can do it, said David Downing, CEO of Yellowberri.
He was immediately fired up about the project when Buchanon approached him to be part of it.
This is a tangible way to showcase something that s different about Bowling Green, Downing said.
The video challenge is just the first part of a year-long social media campaign to promote Bowling Green and engage its residents, Buchanon said.
Hopefully, the contest will lead to a permanent way to showcase the best things about Bowling Green, though it s unclear what form that might take, Downing said.
The whole purpose is to create something that lives on after the video contest, he said.
