The Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority and Barren River Local Workforce Investment Board were awarded a $50,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to design a program addressing local employers needs in filling Advanced Manufacturing Technician positions.

Graduating high school seniors and other candidates will be able to work for a sponsoring employer and earn their AMT degree at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College s Franklin-Simpson Center.

Candidates will work three full days per week and attend college two full days a week for two years, while having their tuition paid by employers sponsored by the grant.

When they graduate, not only will they get a job, they can advance quickly at the sponsoring company where they have been gaining experience for two years, Sara Bruner, chair of the Simpson County Training Consortium, said in a statement. The AMT position is one of the most in-demand career paths for manufacturers in our region.

Grant funds will be used to recruit participants from Simpson and neighboring counties, coordinate employers selection of qualified candidates, facilitate hiring and funding and oversee career development
