SKYCTC Board Member Mike Murphy Added to Jr. Achievement Business Hall of Fame

Portrait photo of Mike MurphyBOWLING GREEN, KY (WBKO) -- Two local business leaders will be inducted into Junior Achievement s South Central Kentucky Business Hall of Fame on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 a.m. at a breakfast presented by BBamp;T at the Knicely Conference Center in Bowling Green. Jim Johnson and Mike Murphy were selected.

A 1976 graduate of Western Kentucky University, Mike Murphy is a lifelong resident of Bowling Green, and a fourth generation contractor/engineer with more than 40 years of experience in civil and building construction. With more than 200 team members, his companies provide Kentucky and Northern Tennessee with design/build, general contracting, and construction management services. Murphy presently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors, and is a board member representing the Southwest Council of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana amp; Kentucky, the nation s largest merit-shop contractor s organization. Murphy received the Small Business Person of the Year Award from the BG Chamber of Commerce in 1997.

Anyone who meets Murphy soon learns of his love for his community. His touch can be seen in the numerous construction projects that he has helped chair, oversee, and donated to, including the new building for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, the multi-million dollar expansion of St. Joseph Catholic School, the Medical Center s Hospitality House and the Soap Box Derby Track and Facility at Phil Moore Park. Murphy has served on the boards of these organizations as well as the Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky and the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Murphy has received numerous accolades for his generosity and service including the Distinguished Patron Award from St. Joseph School, the highest award of the Kiwanis International Foundation-the Inscription of the Tablet of Honor and in 2010, the Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year Award in Bowling Green.

Through his tireless work and ability to share his time, talent and treasures, Murphy has helped strengthen the business community and improve the quality of life in Bowling Green.

Murphy and his wife Mickeye and three children, Nancye Murphy Carter, Sarah Murphy Ford and Cole Morehead Murphy and four grandchildren. With his strong dedication to family and community, Mike Murphy has truly made an impact on the business climate and quality of life in South Central Kentucky.
