SKYCTC Alumni Spotlight - Reagan Young

Reagan Young

Reagan Young was a SKYCTC dual credit student in 2019. After completing courses and graduating from Warren East High School, he continued his education with WKU.

While attending WKU, he launched Broadway Builders LLC—now building and remodeling homes throughout Bowling Green and Warren County. He credits SKYCTC with helping him enter the workforce a full year earlier than he otherwise could have, giving him the head start he needed to pursue his passion and grow a successful business.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO ATTEND SKYCTC?
I chose to take as many dual credit opportunities as possible as a way to cut down on the expense of a college education. This wonderful program allowed me to earn college credits in high school for a fraction of the cost. The dual credit program was instrumental in my efforts to obtain a college degree without student debt.

WHO INFLUENCED YOU MOST DURING YOUR TIME AT SKYCTC (FACULTY/STAFF)?
The teachers at Warren East High School, through partnership with SKYCTC, were pivotal in my education. These teachers did a wonderful job of making sure every student had the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in their next step, whatever that next step may be.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS WANTING TO MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR EXPERIENCE AT SKYCTC?
I would highly recommend utilizing the dual credit program in high school. This program allows you to get a step ahead, for such a discounted rate. The dual credit initiative allows you to cut down on so much cost of obtaining a degree and saves a lot of time in obtaining one.

DESCRIBE YOUR CAREER PATH AND EXPLAIN HOW YOUR EDUCATION AT SKYCTC HELPED PREPARE YOU FOR WHAT YOU ARE DOING TODAY.
SKYCTC dual credit allowed me to go to WKU and get my degree in three years instead of four. In my final year at WKU, I started Broadway Builders with my mentor and have continued in that work since. SKYCTC allowed me to get into the workforce a whole year earlier than I otherwise would have been able to.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE CURRENT STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PURSUING A CAREER IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL FIELD?
I would recommend to anyone wanting to get into the construction industry to find a good mentor who can share their knowledge and teach you. Steve Harlan of Harlan Construction has mentored me since I was 16 years old and is now my business partner. The knowledge he has shared with me over the last few years has been absolutely essential in the work we are doing today.
