Medical Laboratory Technician Selective Admission

SKYCTC accepts 12 students every year with alternate positions.  Admission is a selective process and attendance to a Pre-Admission conference prior to admission is required, which will provide a vast amount of information on the program.  In addition to the Pre-Admission Conference, the following must be completed:

  • Apply for admission to Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College if not currently enrolled.
  • Submit an official transcript of all previous college work.
  • Pre-requisites to be completed with a ā€œCā€ or above prior to the start of the program.
  • Selective Admission points

The pre-requisites that are required to be completed with a ā€œCā€ or above prior to the start of the program are:

  • BIO 135 or higher
  • MAT 110 or higher
  • CHEM 130 or higher
  • MLT 101
  • ENG 101 Writing I
  • PHB 151 or 170
  • PHB 152

BIO 225, can be completed in the first semester of the program.

Proof of immunizations, background checks, and drug screens are required after a student is admitted and prior to starting the first semester of the program.

Points are calculated in the following three areas. Applicants are ranked according to points earned.

1. GPA

Points will be awarded based on the applicant's overall KCTCS GPA.

2. Anatomy & Physiology, Physical Science and Math Grades

  • BIO 135 or higher (applicants who have completed BIO 137 and BIO 139 will be given points for each course)
  • MAT 110 or higher
  • CHE 130 or higher
  • PHB 170 or 151
  • MLT 101

Points awarded will be reduced by one point for any class that was attempted more than once by an applicant for successful completion. See the table below.

High School Transcript verifying graduation or GED official score report and Official Transcripts of all postsecondary education credentials must be submitted.

Only final course grades in classes completed by the end of the Spring semester will be used in calculating selective admission points. In the event of duplicate point total, final applicant will be determined by cumulative grade point average (GPA).
