SKYCTC Alumni Spotlight – Jimmy Daniel Hoskins

Born in Franklin, KY, and raised by a hardworking single mother, Jimmy Daniel Hoskins learned early on the value of perseverance.
“My mom worked tirelessly to provide for us, despite our struggles, and her dedication inspired me to push through life’s challenges,” says Daniel.
After high school, Daniel entered the workforce, uncertain of his career path. He started a family with his wife and spent years working in manufacturing to support them while she pursued her college degree. Once she graduated, Daniel realized it was time for a change.
"I was ready for a career that I chose and enjoyed, rather than just punching a clock," he explains.
That decision led him to Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College (SKYCTC).
“SKYCTC was the perfect fit for me—it was local, affordable, and offered several programs that piqued my interest,” Daniel recalls. He ultimately chose Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) because of his passion for fixing things and working with his hands.
“My time at SKYCTC was invaluable—the hands-on training, knowledgeable instructors, and strong sense of community prepared me for real-world challenges.”
Daniel successfully completed the HVAC Mechanic diploma in 2024 and is now working as an HVAC Technician at Travis HVAC Service and Installation. In his role, he troubleshoots, installs, and repairs HVAC systems.
“I love that my job keeps me on the move, takes me to different locations, and offers new challenges every day. Thanks to SKYCTC, I was able to take control of my future, and I’m grateful for the education and friendships that helped me build a career I truly enjoy.”
His advice to current and future students?
“Utilize all the resources available to you, attend classes, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s a lot to learn and can be overwhelming at times, but don’t give up. Practice makes a professional.”
Congratulations, Daniel, on your success! SKYCTC is proud to celebrate your journey.
