SKYCTC announces Excellence Award recipients

Bowling Green, KY (December 20, 2024) – Each year, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) recognizes faculty and staff who demonstrate exemplary work ethic, extraordinary impact, and a positive connection with students and colleagues through the Awards of Excellence. These awards were presented to individuals in the categories of Outstanding Support Staff, Administrative Staff, and Faculty. Nominees were submitted by their peers, and winners were selected by members of the SKYCTC Board of Directors and Foundation Board. This year’s winners are Mr. John Thomerson for Support Staff, Ms. Denna White for Administrative Staff, and Dr. Renee White for Faculty.
Dr. John Thomerson – Support Staff Award of Excellence
Dr. John Thomerson, recipient of the Support Staff Award of Excellence, serves as
the Retention and Resources Coordinator at SKYCTC. Over the past year, Dr. Thomerson
designed and supported the Career and Academic Planning Center in running the New
Student Orientation, helping new students transition to SKYCTC. As a result, SKYCTC
retained its highest number of first-time students in years. In addition to his regular
duties, Dr. Thomerson serves as the Secretary for the SOKY Veterans Council, teaches
music courses for SKYCTC, and performs locally on guitar, Hindustani sitar, Zimbabwean
mbira, and banjo.
Ms. Denna White – Administrative Staff Award of Excellence
Ms. Denna White, recipient of the Administrative Staff Award of Excellence, serves
as the Director of Admissions at SKYCTC. Ms. White is dedicated to representing the
College in the community through her active involvement in various extracurricular
activities. She plays a key role in SCK Launch, an annual event held for 8th grade
students in the Bowling Green Independent School District and Warren County Public
Schools, providing students with pathways to educational and career opportunities.
Through her leadership in the annual Skills USA event, she supports the development
of practical skills and leadership in high school students.
Dr. Renee White – Faculty Award of Excellence
Dr. Renee White, recipient of the Faculty Award of Excellence, has been with SKYCTC
since January 2013. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Medical Information
Technology program and the Assistant to the Dean for the Business and Information
Technologies Division. Dr. White teaches all medical coding courses and has served
as an officer for the Barren River Area Coding Chapter for the past ten years. She
also serves as the Vice Chair of Faculty Senate and Chair of the College Advisory
Committee on Promotion. In addition to her academic work, Dr. White is a Lead Ambassador
at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKYPAC).
