Lexington, KY (June 13, 2024)- Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) proudly announces its top twenty finish amongst Kentucky’s one-hundred Best Places to Work; SKYCTC placed sixth in the medium size companies by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM). This marks the tenth occasion that the college has received the prestigious recognition as a Best Place to Work in Kentucky.

The announcement was made at the awards dinner held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Central Bank Center (formerly Lexington Convention Center). The 20th Annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky awards ceremony, presented by CHI Saint Joseph Health, brought together over 1,000 attendees to celebrate the commitment of 100 recognized Kentucky companies to enhancing workplace environments.

The companies recognized in 2024 were initially announced in March, with rankings unveiled during the awards ceremony. The selection process, which categorizes companies into small (15-149 employees), medium (150-499 employees), and large (500+ employees), is based on comprehensive surveys conducted among U.S. employees, exclusively within the state of Kentucky.

SKYCTC President and CEO, Dr. Phillip Neal, expressed gratitude, stating, "It is indeed an honor for every member of the SKYCTC family to receive this recognition. Our college is built around core values of caring for others and excellence in education. Everything we do is in service to our students, communities, and our fellow employees. I am proud of what our team has accomplished and the organization we have become."

Sherri Forester, Vice President of Administrative Services at SKYCTC, echoed Dr. Neal's sentiments, emphasizing the dedication of SKYCTC employees to the institution's vision and mission. "SKYCTC employees care about what they do, and it shows through our culture of caring for our students and each other.”  Forester said. "I am extremely proud of this award as it is a testament to how our employees feel about working at SKYCTC.

The Best Places to Work in Kentucky program, now in its 20th year, aims to motivate companies across the Commonwealth to enhance their workplace environments. Over the years, the program has recognized 359 unique Kentucky companies, with 248 of them making multiple appearances on the list. Special recognition was given to Dean Dorton for being included on the list for all 20 years.

Patricia Williams, SHRM-SCP and Chair of KYSHRM, highlighted the vital role of HR (Human Resources) professionals in shaping Kentucky's workforce landscape. "In Kentucky, HR professionals are at the forefront of guiding the workforce through the dynamic landscape of modern work," Williams stated. "These leaders have tackled intricate post-pandemic business hurdles, from crafting ethical policies for telework and artificial intelligence use to opening space for employees to discuss and prioritize mental health."

Ashli Watts, President, and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber, emphasized the program's role in bolstering Kentucky's economy by fostering workplaces that attract talent. "In order to help Kentucky’s economy thrive, we must be able to educate and employ current Kentuckians, while also creating workplaces that attract talent from outside of the state. The Best Places program does just that," Watts remarked.
