Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College students win 2024 Microsoft Office Specialist Kentucky championships

Bowling Green, Ky. – The winners of the 2024 Spring Qualifier Microsoft Office Specialist Kentucky State Championship have been announced by Certiport, the leading provider of performance-based IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners.

Winners from Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College include:

  • Jonah Ramsey of Cottontown, TN, 1st Place, Microsoft Excel 365
  • West Rowden of Pensacola, FL, 4th Place, Microsoft Excel 365, a CIT 130 dual credit student
  • Abby Parker of Bowling Green, KY, 6th Place, Microsoft Excel 365
  • Bowen Kirby of Lewisburg, KY, 7th Place, Microsoft Excel 365
  • Oo Meh, of Bowling Green, KY, 9th Place, Microsoft Excel 365
  • Matthew Petty of Franklin, KY, 9th Place, Microsoft PowerPoint 365, Franklin-Simpson County HS CIT 105 Dual Credit Student
  • Savanna Sturgill of Bowling Green, KY, 1st Place, Microsoft Word 2019, Greenwood HS CIT 105 Dual Credit Student
  • Piyush Yadav of Bowling Green, KY, 7th Place, Microsoft Word 2019, Greenwood HS CIT 105 Dual Credit Student
  • Lukas Douglas of Scottsville, KY, 5th Place, Microsoft Word 365

During the Fall Qualifier of the 2024 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship, SKYCTC students showcased their proficiency by securing top 10 placements in Kentucky. Notable achievements include:

  • Kadin Collins of Smiths Grove, KY, Kadin - 1st in Kentucky in PowerPoint and 2nd in Kentucky in Excel.  He will be competing nationally in Orlando in June.
  • Vlera Mirena of Bowling Green, KY, - 5th place in the State Microsoft PowerPoint category (Microsoft 365 Apps).
  • Katelyn Groves of Scottsville, KY, - 3rd place in the Microsoft Excel category (Microsoft 365 Apps).
  • Lori Johnson of Russellville, KY, - 8th place in the Microsoft Word category (Microsoft 365 Apps).

To compete in the Spring Qualifier, students aged 13 to 22 were eligible to participate in one of six competition tracks by submitting a qualified, passing score on the Microsoft Office Specialist Word, Excel®, or PowerPoint® certification exams by May 3rd, 2024. 

“We have seen amazing results from the Microsoft Office Specialist program at our college as students learn and validate key workforce skills,” said Carmen Gaskins, Computer & Information Technologies Professor and Program Coordinator.  “The Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship further motivates them to earn certification and we are proud of these students who have proven to be the best in our state.  We know they will go on to make us proud in their future endeavors.”

They now have an important distinction to place on their resume that shows a desire to learn and validate in-demand skills,” said Craig Bushman, General Manager, Certiport. “The title ‘Microsoft Office Specialist Champion’ will serve them well in their academic and career pursuits.”
