Bowling Green, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) celebrated a milestone achievement with the pinning ceremony for the first graduating class of its Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the college's main campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The MLT program at SKYCTC equips students with the academic and applied science education needed to become medical laboratory professionals. Graduates are trained to perform critical tests that analyze body fluids, tissue, and other substances in essential areas, including immunohematology, microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and immunology. These professionals play a vital role in the healthcare system, supporting both service and research in rapidly evolving medical fields.

The unique hybrid MLT program at SKYCTC operates in partnership with West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah, Kentucky, addressing the growing demand for qualified Medical Lab Technicians in local healthcare facilities. All eleven graduates have secured employment at regional healthcare institutions. As part of the ceremony, each graduate signed a "Going Pro" commitment of employment with one of four area employers: Cumberland County Hospital, Graves Gilbert Clinic, Med Center Health, and TJ Regional Health.

In her address, MLT Program Coordinator Dr. Bridget Ledford Waters encouraged the graduates to continue their dedication to raising awareness of the profession and fulfilling their commitment to the field.

This year’s MLT program graduates include: Angel Blankenship, Caitlyn Durham, Dawson Deel, Claire Eaton, Mailey Ford, Hannah Griffin, Hayley Miller, Victoria Newland, Meghan Walz, Megan Word, and Kadie Whitson.
