BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) is embarking on a transformative $5 million renovation project to create a state-of-the-art Campus Community Center on its main campus. To honor the legacy of the College’s most generous benefactors, Robert and Mary Tincher, SKYCTC will name the new facility the "Robert and Mary Tincher Campus Community Center." This dedication will celebrate the Tinchers' remarkable history of giving and lasting impact on the college and the broader community.
The proposed Campus Community Center is designed to be a vibrant hub for students and the public, featuring an art gallery, a coffee shop, and spaces for educational programs and events. The facility will serve as a central point of campus activity, enhancing both student life and community engagement—a fitting tribute to the Tinchers' enduring support for SKYCTC students and programs.
The Tinchers have played an essential role in the growth and success of SKYCTC. Over the years, Mary Tincher and the Robert and Mary Tincher Charitable Foundation have contributed more than $1.7 million to the SKYCTC Foundation. Now, with today’s proposed transformational gift of $1.5 million toward the Campus Community Center and future scholarships, their total contributions will exceed $3.2 million, making them the largest single donors in the history of the college.
Robert “Bob” Tincher, CEO of Monarch Environmental for 25 years, was a self-made man known for his wisdom and generosity. Dedicated to helping others succeed, particularly those in the trades, Bob supported numerous organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club, Hospice, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. His wife, Mary Louise Tincher, who worked at Western Kentucky Gas Company and later Bowling Green Parks and Recreation, was equally devoted to giving back to the community. Together, the couple quietly but profoundly impacted Bowling Green through their charitable work.
Following Bob’s passing in 2009, Mary established the Robert and Mary Tincher Charitable Foundation to ensure their commitment to helping others would continue. The Foundation’s focus includes supporting higher education through scholarships and aiding children and senior citizens.
Mary Tincher began her relationship with SKYCTC in 2010 with a generous donation to the "Fulfilling the Promise" Campaign. Her support continued throughout the years with annual gifts for scholarships and contributions to the student emergency fund. Notably, she made a significant contribution to the “Buildsmart” Capital Campaign in 2018. Thanks to the Tinchers' generosity, more than 650 students have received scholarships, with plans to support many more in the future.
The named building, "Robert and Mary Tincher Campus Community Center," reflects SKYCTC’s deep appreciation for the Tinchers' extraordinary contributions. This naming will stand as a lasting tribute to Robert and Mary Tincher, whose legacy of philanthropy continues to benefit SKYCTC students and the broader community.
