Bowling Green, KY – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) proudly spotlights alumna Jessie Manco, whose career journey from the classrooms of SKYCTC to the front lines of neonatal and pediatric transport care at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is nothing short of inspiring.

When Jessie began exploring career paths, she was drawn to SKYCTC’s (formerly BGTC) Respiratory Care Program for its personalized instruction, smaller class sizes, and strong ties to local clinical settings. “The program’s real-world clinical experience and direct connection to area healthcare facilities stood out,” Jessie said. “SKYCTC truly set me up for success.”

Among those who made a lasting impact on her during her time at SKYCTC were instructors Mr. Jim Bronson and Mrs. Marcia Fuller. “They made it possible for us to step into local hospitals and learn directly from practicing professionals,” Jessie noted. “Thanks to them, I connected with incredible mentors like Judy Merchant, who continues to offer career advice 18 years later.”

After earning her degree in 2008, Jessie launched her career at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Longing to be closer to home, she returned to Bowling Green and began working at Greenview Hospital, a site where she had completed clinicals. Ten years later, she embraced a new opportunity at The Medical Center at Bowling Green and unexpectedly discovered her passion for neonatal care. “One delivery was all it took—I instantly fell in love with NICU work,” she said.

Jessie’s ambition and curiosity eventually led her to Vanderbilt, where she’s now been a neonatal/pediatric transport respiratory therapist for over three years. “I’ve finally found my place,” she shared. “SKYCTC gave me the academic foundation and professional network I needed to take bold steps and chase my goals.”

To current SKYCTC students, Jessie offers valuable advice: “Stay engaged and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Build strong relationships with your instructors and classmates—they will be your support system.”

For those interested in neonatal or pediatric transport respiratory care, Jessie emphasizes the importance of curiosity and continuous growth. “Every day is a chance to learn. This field demands strong clinical judgment and calmness under pressure, but the reward is knowing you’re making a difference in the lives of our tiniest patients.”

From Bowling Green to Vanderbilt, Jessie Manco is a powerful example of how SKYCTC alumni are making a meaningful impact in their communities—and beyond.
