New Orleans, LA (February 2025) – Mary Bokkon, Director of Program Facilitation for the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) TRIO Program, has been recognized for her outstanding service to low-income students. She received the Deborah Northcross Unsung SAEOPP Supporter Award at the 58th Annual Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Inc. (SAEOPP) Conference in New Orleans. The award was presented by Dr. Sherontae Maxwell, SAEOPP President.

The prestigious award presented for the first time honors individuals who contribute to the mission and goals of both SAEOPP and Kentucky TRIO. Recipients are selected based on their dedication to TRIO through service at conferences and committees, as well as their positive promotion of TRIO programs.

Kentucky TRIO, originally founded as KAEOPP (The Kentucky Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel), is a non-profit organization committed to supporting disadvantaged students. Kentucky TRIO serves individuals from middle school to adulthood, many of whom are first-generation college students from low-income households. The program’s mission is to provide these students with the resources and support needed to achieve academic success.

SAEOPP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization representing eight states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Its members are dedicated to advocating for equal educational opportunities, supporting student access and success in postsecondary education, and providing professional development for TRIO personnel.
