Josh Martin - March/April 2025 FBLA Collegiate Member Spotlight
March/April’s FBLA Collegiate Member Spotlight features Josh Martin. Josh is a native of Bowling Green and graduated from Bowling Green High School.
When asked why he joined FBLA Collegiate, Josh explains, “I joined FBLA Collegiate mainly because I value the experiences I had when I was in FBLA all 4 years of high school but also because I know FBLA provides a wide range of opportunities to meet with businesses and network with others which is imperative for finding jobs.”
Josh has been an active member of FBLA Collegiate by participating in meetings, community service events, business tours, and competitions. What has he enjoyed the most? “My favorite things in FBLA Collegiate are the competitive events and volunteer service opportunities. The competitive events allow us to practice vital workplace skills while volunteering allows students to help people and get connected with charitable organizations around the community,” he says.
Why does Josh recommend FBLA Collegiate? He explains, “FBLA Collegiate is the premier club at SKYCTC for students to make connections with the community, build lasting relationships, and meet future employers and business partners. Through FBLA Collegiate, we step out of the doors of the classroom and into the community better ready to fulfill our roles as employees, business leaders, and servants to our communities.”
What brought Josh to SKYCTC? “I considered several other colleges and universities before I selected SKYCTC. The professors at SKYCTC are more knowledgeable about current certifications essential to my profession than some of the professors I met at larger universities. After seeing the hands-on, personal approach in SKYCTC’s Computer Information Technology program, I knew SKYCTC was the right place for me,” he says.
Josh is studying Computer Information Technology and plans to graduate in May 2026. He explains, “I want a career that allows me to serve my community, state and nation, so I plan to use my computer technology and cybersecurity skills to work as a state trooper.”
When describing his family, Josh explains, “I’m the son of an Army veteran who is a refrigeration project manager at Houchens Industries. My mother is a retired high school English teacher who has returned to her roots as an insurance agent with our family business, McCay and Associates Insurance here in Bowling Green. My oldest brother is a high school social studies teacher, in the KY Army National Guard and studying full time at Southern Theological Seminary. My other brother works at McCay and Associates Insurance.”
Josh is very involved in church and civic organizations. “I’ve been a member of the Civil Air Patrol for the past 6 years where I am able to train to serve my community, state, and nation through Emergency Services and Aerospace Missions for the Air Force and NASA.
I also like to program and work on my own electronic projects and play video games with my Friends and family,” he says.
Josh’s fun fact is tied to his involvement in the Civil Air Patrol. “Through Civil Air Patrol, I spent part of 2 summers training for and working at the World’s Largest Airshow, EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh, WI. I also spent several weeks one summer training in mountain rescue procedures and ground team emergency services at Civil Air Patrol’s Hawk Mountain Ranger School, which included rappelling and mountain climbing at Hawk Mountain, PA,” he says.
Josh summarizes the most important goal in his life by saying, “In my life, I find the most important thing I can do is to serve others and be a positive influence on those around me.”
Congratulations, Josh!
