Pathfinder of the Year Award coincides with Community College Month, celebrating the impact of teachers, counselors on Kentucky high school students

Bowling Green, KY April 17, 2025 – Greenwood High School celebrated a proud moment today as College and Career Coach Holly Whittinghill was honored with the 2025 High School Teacher/Counselor Pathfinder Award by Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC). This prestigious recognition is part of a statewide initiative led by the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) to spotlight high school educators who go above and beyond in preparing students for college and career success.

The Pathfinder Award is presented annually to high school teachers and counselors who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to guiding students through academic and career planning. Whittinghill’s recognition underscores her tireless efforts to support student achievement both inside and outside the classroom.

“Educators like Ms. Whittinghill play a critical role in shaping the futures of our young people, ensuring they are equipped for success in higher education, their careers, and the community at large,” said Dr. Brooke Justice, Interim President of SKYCTC. “Ms. Whittinghill exemplifies the spirit of the Pathfinder Award through her unwavering commitment to empowering students to pursue their dreams.”

Whittinghill was selected from nearly 250 nominations submitted across all KCTCS institutions, with one recipient chosen from each of the 16 colleges of the system. Selection criteria included promoting SKYCTC as a postsecondary option, assisting students in career and educational planning, providing mentorship, and offering ongoing support throughout students’ journeys.

This award highlights the profound influence that dedicated educators like Holly Whittinghill have on their students and communities, assuring that every student’s path to college and career readiness is supported by encouragement, expertise, and heartfelt dedication.
