Bowling Green, KY – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) mourns the passing of former President Dr. Nathan Hodges, whose visionary leadership transformed the College and strengthened communities throughout Southcentral Kentucky.
Dr. Hodges served as president for eight years, guiding SKYCTC through a period of unprecedented growth and national recognition. Under his leadership, the College was ranked among the fastest-growing two-year colleges in the nation, including #1 nationally in 2008, and achieved the highest degree completion rate in Kentucky, placing in the top 6 percent nationally.
During his tenure, SKYCTC earned numerous distinctions, including #1 in Kentucky for student persistence, workforce training credit headcount, and Fire Rescue Training. The College was also recognized nationally as a best practice institution for student success and data reporting.
Dr. Hodges led SKYCTC’s transition into a comprehensive community and technical college, expanding transfer and technical degree offerings and more than doubling degree-seeking enrollment. He oversaw the opening of new campuses and training centers, significant facility renovations, and the establishment of key student support services, including the Student Learning Center.
A strong advocate for workforce and economic development, Dr. Hodges helped establish Centers of Excellence in robotics and digital technologies and launched Kentucky’s only FANUC Robotics Training Center. He also expanded adult education, dual credit, online learning, and college readiness opportunities across the region.
Dr. Hodges led the College through its official name change to Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College, reflecting its expanded mission and regional reach.
“Dr. Hodges’ legacy is defined by opportunity,” said Dr. Michelle Trawick, President/CEO of Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College. “Thousands of students, employees, and community partners continue to benefit from his leadership and belief in education as a pathway to success.”
SKYCTC extends its deepest condolences to Dr. Hodges’ family and all who were impacted by his life and service.
