SKYCTC Honors Veterans with a Moving Ceremony of Gratitude and Reflection

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (November 11, 2025). — Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) honored the courage, sacrifice, and service of our veterans with a heartfelt ceremony held Tuesday, November 11, on the college’s main campus. The event brought together students, faculty, staff, and community members in a moving tribute that reflected SKYCTC’s deep respect for those who serve and have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The ceremony, moderated by Charles Cole, Arts and Humanities instructor at SKYCTC, set a reflective tone by reminding attendees that freedom is not only a privilege but a shared responsibility.
SKYCTC President Michelle Trawick noted that Veterans Day is “a time to pause and recognize the men and women who have defended our freedoms and strengthened our nation through their service.” She expressed gratitude to the veterans within the SKYCTC community — students, employees, and family members — whose dedication continues to inspire the college’s mission of service and excellence.
Jason Goodman, a U.S. Navy veteran and current plant manager at Logan Aluminum, delivered the keynote. Goodman shared his personal story of enlisting in the Navy right after high school in 1989, serving three years as an Electronic Warfare Technician aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk (CV-63). His reflections on teamwork, discipline, and sacrifice resonated deeply with the audience. “The lessons I learned serving my country are the same ones I carry into leadership today — commitment, integrity, and respect for others,” Goodman said.
SKYCTC remains proud to honor those who have served and continues its commitment to supporting veterans and their families through education, opportunity, and community.
