BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A family's commitment to caring for others will create new opportunities for future nurses at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) through a scholarship endowment established by Carder Dallas in honor of his mother, Kim Dallas, and sister, Aby Yeager.
The scholarship recognizes the dedication of two nursing professionals while providing financial assistance to SKYCTC nursing students pursuing careers in healthcare.
Kim Dallas is a former nurse whose career reflected a commitment to helping others, while her daughter, Aby Yeager, continues that tradition as a nurse in the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) department at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.
For Carder Dallas, establishing the scholarship is both a tribute to the women who have made a difference in his life and an investment in the next generation of healthcare professionals.
“On behalf of our family, we're grateful for the chance to support SKYCTC's outstanding Nursing program,” said Dallas. “For generations, nurses have touched our family's lives in meaningful ways, and it's a privilege to honor two of the best nurses and women I know — my mom and sister. We're proud to partner with SKYCTC and KCTCS and look forward to seeing how this scholarship helps future nurses for years to come.”
The scholarship will support students enrolled in SKYCTC's Nursing program who have demonstrated the potential for academic excellence and a commitment to completing their education.
To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Kentucky or Tennessee and a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Be currently enrolled in SKYCTC's Nursing program.
- Be enrolled as a full-time student. Part-time students may be considered if documented financial hardship or significant personal circumstances prevent full-time enrollment.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
- Special consideration will be given to first-generation college students and single parents or primary caregivers.
The scholarship reflects an understanding of the challenges many nursing students face while balancing demanding coursework, clinical training, employment and family responsibilities. By giving special consideration to first-generation college students and those with caregiving responsibilities, the endowment seeks to expand opportunities for individuals who may face additional obstacles in pursuing their education.
Through this endowment, the Dallas family's appreciation for the nursing profession will continue to make a difference by helping students overcome financial barriers and prepare for rewarding careers caring for others.
The scholarship also reinforces SKYCTC's commitment to preparing qualified healthcare professionals to meet the growing needs of hospitals, clinics and healthcare facilities throughout Southcentral Kentucky and the surrounding region.
For the Dallas family, the endowment represents more than financial assistance. It is a lasting tribute to Kim Dallas and Aby Yeager and a way to carry forward their shared commitment to compassion, service and the nursing profession.
