
Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College honors Dr. Gene Basil on retirement after 27 years of service

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College is honoring Dr. Gene Basil as he retires after 27 years of dedicated service to the college, its students, and the Southcentral Kentucky region.
Dr. Basil began his career at SKYCTC as a faculty member and went on to serve in several leadership roles, including Division Chair and Dean of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies. Throughout his career, he played a vital role in expanding academic opportunities, strengthening workforce development initiatives, and building partnerships with regional industries.
As an instructor, Dr. Basil helped facilitate the college’s first associate in applied science degrees in Information Technology, creating new pathways for students entering the rapidly growing technology field. His efforts helped position SKYCTC as a leader in preparing students for in-demand careers in information technology and advanced manufacturing.
Dr. Basil was also instrumental in launching SKYFLEX, one of the college’s first flexible course scheduling options designed to better serve working adults and non-traditional students. The innovative scheduling model provided students with greater access to higher education while balancing work and family responsibilities.
During his tenure as Dean of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, Dr. Basil provided leadership for programs that support Kentucky’s manufacturing workforce and economic development efforts. He worked closely with business and industry leaders to ensure programs remained aligned with workforce needs and that students graduated with the skills necessary for successful careers.

Michelle Trawick. “His dedication to innovation, workforce development, and academic excellence has helped thousands of students achieve their educational and career goals.”
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Basil expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the college and the community.
“I am proud of the impact SKYCTC has made throughout the region and grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside so many talented faculty, staff, students, and industry partners over the years,” said Dr. Basil. “It has been an honor to serve this institution and support student success.”
