BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Jayne Constant does not see art and technology as enemies For the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) student, the two go hand in hand, and she brings both to work every day at D93 radio station in Bowling Green.

Constant, a student at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC), established her career as a graphic designer, face painting business owner, muralist, podcaster, and communications professional. She has even worked in professional wrestling as a manager, writer, and correspondent.

What she did not have was a college degree. Now 40, Constant is a first-time college student, a step that can feel daunting after two decades in the workforce. As a proud mother, she is determined to set a good example for her daughter. She was encouraged to enroll in the Computer and Information Technologies program and is pursuing an associate in applied science degree.

“I wanted to use my technical skills in a way that’s beneficial to other people and to building better communities,” Constant said. “I love problem solving.”

Where Creativity and Technology Meet

At D93, Constant works as a digital strategist and media personality, managing digital promotions, email campaigns, graphic design, website content, advertiser support, data analysis, and the station’s Big Deals online store. Her report analysis draws on artificial intelligence and prompt engineering, a focus of her studies.

“One of my favorite parts is seeing an idea turn into a successful promotion that connects a local business with its customers,” Constant said. “I love getting to be creative, solve problems and work on the radio whenever I can.”

Much of her work happens behind the scenes, but when she is on air, listeners know her as “Calamity Jayne.”

“A lot of people think radio is dead. I disagree,” she said. “Radio is a genuine, human connection, and I get to bring that human element into a new age using my technical skills.”

Connecting Education with Real-World Experience

Constant has over two decades of professional experience long before her first class. The degree builds on that experience.

“Having an associate in applied science degree with a focus on computer information technology makes me more marketable as a whole, and that’s why I wanted to pursue it,” she said. “It’s helped me connect what I’m learning with what a business actually needs. A willingness to learn is particularly important, and I focus on continuous improvement every day.”

Constant credits SKYCTC’s paid work-study placement with opening the door to her position at D93, and says the people at SKYCTC have been kind, understanding, and patient throughout her journey.

“It’s really opened doors for me and given me opportunities to apply my knowledge in a professional setting,” she said.

A Message for Creatives

Constant hopes her story encourages artists, designers and anyone who has never been to college, or wants to continue their education, to take that step.

“If you’re an artist or designer who thinks you’re not a tech person, expand your horizons,” she said. “Technology is going to play a vital part in every creative field. Enrolling in a program like SKYCTC’s puts you ahead of the game.”

“SKYCTC is giving me an excellent technical foundation, and D93 is giving me the opportunity to use it to benefit my community, collaborate with people and find out where I can contribute the most,” Constant said.
