SKYCTC Art Gallery to Feature Works of Bowling Green Artist Laurin Notheisen

Drawn from Nature: Works on Paper by Bowling Green artist Laurin Notheisen will be on display in the SKYCTC Art Gallery from August 17 through October 2, 2026. The public is invited to a Gallery Naming Ribbon Cutting and Artist Reception on Wednesday, September 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) will present Drawn from Nature: Works on Paper by Laurin Notheisen, an exhibition showcasing the artwork of acclaimed Bowling Green artist and Western Kentucky University Professor Emerita Laurin Notheisen. The exhibition will be on display in the SKYCTC Art Gallery from August 17 through October 2, 2026.

The exhibition features an intimate collection of graphite drawings, watercolors and prints that explore the quiet complexity of natural spaces. Through careful observation and the manipulation of photography, Notheisen layers her mark-making to create compositions rich with natural textures, rhythms and subtle detail. Her work encourages viewers to slow down, look closely and discover the beauty and vitality found within familiar landscapes.

"SKYCTC is proud to provide opportunities for our students and the community to experience exceptional regional artists," said Leslie Nichols, Associate Professor and curator of the new art gallery at SKYCTC. "Laurin Notheisen's work demonstrates extraordinary technical skill while inviting viewers to see the natural world with fresh perspective. We are honored to feature her exhibition in our gallery."

The public is invited to attend a special Gallery Naming Ribbon Cutting and Artist Reception on Wednesday, September 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed immediately by an artist reception where guests will have the opportunity to meet Notheisen and view the exhibition.

"My landscape work involves creating the illusion of a place—a beautiful but somewhat disquieting place," said Notheisen. "The images begin with manipulated photographs that become the foundation for drawings, paintings and prints. I hope viewers experience the work as they would a story or a magical moment, discovering both recognizable forms and the rhythms of marks and colors that bring the composition to life."

Born in 1951, Notheisen grew up in the Chicago suburbs and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before earning both her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and Master of Fine Arts in lithography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She joined the faculty at Western Kentucky University in 1975, where she taught art appreciation, basic design, drawing and printmaking until her retirement in 2014. Now Professor Emerita, she continues to create artwork in her Bowling Green studio.

Notheisen's work is included in numerous public and private collections, including the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, Brown-Forman, Mammoth Cave National Park, Louisville Gas and Electric, Arkansas State University and Austin Peay University.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. The SKYCTC Art Gallery is located inside the Robert & Mary Tincher Campus Community Center on SKYCTC's main campus at 1845 Loop Drive in Bowling Green.
