Glasgow, KY – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) has purchased land in Glasgow for the future site of the new Glasgow Health Campus, marking a major step forward in expanding health care education and workforce training in the region.

The new campus is made possible by funding from the Kentucky General Assembly. Lawmakers allocated $90 million to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) for three capital projects designed to replace or consolidate outdated facilities that are no longer financially sustainable to maintain or upgrade. The Glasgow project supports KCTCS’s goal to better meet the Commonwealth’s higher education and workforce needs.

The current Glasgow Health Campus is located on the site of the former Glasgow State Tuberculosis Sanatorium, which later became the Glasgow State Nursing Facility in 1977. While the location has served generations of students, the facility is no longer suitable for providing the modern education and training required to meet the Commonwealth’s growing workforce needs.

The property for the new campus, formerly owned by the Stahl family, is located just off Exit 8 of the Cumberland Parkway, past Bob Lewis Road on the interior of Veterans Outer Loop. The land can be accessed via Veterans Outer Loop and Donnelley Drive. A “Future Home of the Glasgow Health Campus” banner is currently displayed on the site.

College leaders worked closely with local and regional partners to identify the best location for the new campus, including local utility districts and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Research for the land location included multiple meetings with Mayor Henry Royse, Judge Executive Jamie Byrd, Barren Inc. CEO and President Maureen Carpenter, and many community leaders. Nearly a dozen parcels within Barren County were considered during the process.

SKYCTC also received strong support from KCTCS President Dr. Ryan Quarles and the KCTCS System Office in Versailles. Andy Casebier, associate vice president for facilities and support services, and his team played a key role in evaluating potential sites and leading the land acquisition process.

“Ultimately, we chose to locate our new campus on a ‘blank slate,’ so we could set the tone for the development around us,” said Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College President and CEO Michelle Trawick. “We will build a state-of-the-art health care education facility. We will also offer general education and business classes in the facility. Our aim is to elevate SKYCTC, Barren County, and our 10-county region by creating a campus that rivals the best higher education facilities.”

“The Commonwealth is facing a significant nursing shortage, and this new facility will allow us to strengthen and expand our top-ranked nursing program. We are committed to serving more students and providing better service, and this new campus will help us achieve that,” said Trawick.

Expanding on growth, SKYCTC Dean of Nursing Angie Harlan said the new facility will help the college expand its health care training programs.

“In addition to increasing enrollment, the new campus will also create opportunities to introduce additional health-related programs that support the workforce needs of our region,” Harlan said. “Our Glasgow Health Campus faculty and staff have been dedicated to delivering high-quality instruction in our current facility for many years, and that commitment will continue with a facility that provides the space, resources, and technology needed to serve even more students.”

A groundbreaking celebration at the future campus site will be held on April 30, 2026. Additional details on the planning and timeline for the new Glasgow Health Campus will be shared as the project progresses.
