Bowling Green, KY – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College's (SKYCTC) Student Government Association (SGA) celebrated a milestone by hosting its inaugural "Pass the Gavel" ceremony, recognizing the accomplishments of outgoing student leaders while officially welcoming a new slate of officers for the upcoming academic year.

Held in the Student Life Lounge of the newly opened Robert & Mary Tincher Campus & Community Center, the ceremony brought together students, advisors, faculty, family members, and friends to celebrate a year of leadership, service, and campus engagement.

SGA Treasurer JayRon Jefferson opened the evening by reflecting on the importance of recognizing student leadership and the impact SGA has made throughout the year.

"Tonight is a special occasion because it allows us to reflect on the work, leadership, and dedication of this past year," Jefferson said.

During the Spring 2026 semester, SGA worked alongside numerous student clubs and organizations to strengthen campus life through collaboration and service. Among the organization's accomplishments were implementing updated student club guidelines and launching "De-Stressor Week," a series of activities and resources designed to help students manage stress before final exams. The creation of the "Pass the Gavel" ceremony continues that spirit of innovation by establishing a lasting tradition that celebrates leadership and ensures a smooth transition between administrations.

SGA Advisor Dr. Travis said the ceremony symbolizes both recognition and continuity.

"A new tradition has taken root," Dr. Travis said. "The Pass the Gavel ceremony provides an opportunity to recognize the impact of student leaders and ensures continuity as newly elected officers are welcomed through the symbolic passing of the gavel."

A highlight of the evening was the formal introduction of incoming SGA President Kendra Duncan, who will begin her term this fall. Duncan shared her enthusiasm for serving the student body and building upon the organization's recent successes.

"As I step into this new role as SGA President, I am both honored and excited to serve," Duncan said. "I am committed to listening to students' ideas, supporting their initiatives, and creating opportunities that enhance student life on our campus. I'm ready to get to work, and I can't wait to see what we can achieve together this year."

The inaugural "Pass the Gavel" ceremony marks the beginning of what SGA leaders hope will become an annual tradition at SKYCTC. More than a ceremonial transfer of leadership, the event reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to student engagement, service, and developing future campus leaders.

As one leadership team concluded its service and another prepared to begin, the evening celebrated not only the achievements of the past year but also the continued growth of a student-led legacy dedicated to enhancing the SKYCTC experience for all students.
