SKYCTC Student Selena Jones Elected Phi Theta Kappa Regional Vice President

Bowling Green, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) student Selena Jones has been elected Regional Vice President for the Kentucky Region of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK), representing both SKYCTC and community college students across the state.
Jones was elected during the regional PTK convention earlier this year and will serve alongside other student leaders to support PTK chapters and initiatives throughout Kentucky.
As Regional Vice President, Jones will help support PTK chapters across the state, assist with regional projects and events, encourage student leadership and involvement, and work with other regional officers to promote the mission and values of Phi Theta Kappa.
“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to represent both my college and students across the region,” Jones said. “PTK has helped me grow as a student and as a leader. It has given me opportunities to connect with other motivated students and develop skills that will help me in the future. As I often say, ‘The struggle is worth the reward,’ and this opportunity reminds me that hard work and perseverance truly pay off.”
Jones is a non-traditional student who returned to school after spending nearly ten years away from education. As a mother of two, she says her family has been a major source of motivation throughout her academic journey. Raised by a single mother alongside two siblings, Jones credits her upbringing with instilling the importance of education and determination.
She is also making history within her family, becoming the first on her father’s side to graduate high school and attend college.
Jones chose to attend Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College because of the opportunities the college provides students and its close proximity to her home, which allowed her to successfully transition back into academic life.
She joined Phi Theta Kappa to challenge herself academically and become more involved on campus. Through the organization, she has found opportunities for leadership, scholarship, and service that have helped her grow both personally and academically.
Jones is currently pursuing an Associate in Arts degree at SKYCTC. After graduation, she plans to transfer to a university to pursue a degree in English with the goal of becoming a professor. She hopes her educational journey will allow her to inspire and support other students, particularly those who return to college later in life.
“I want to continue my education and use my experiences to encourage other students,” Jones said. “Returning to school can be challenging, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.”
