Local Veteran Organizations and Donors Award Academic Scholarships to Five SKYCTC Student Veterans

The entire group of scholarship recipients, family and SKYCTC Faculty who attended the Veterans Upward Bound banquet

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Five exceptional student veterans at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) were honored for their military service and academic dedication at the annual Veterans Upward Bound banquet last Saturday.

The event celebrated the achievements of non-traditional student veterans transitioning from military service to higher education. In recognition of their hard work, local veteran organizations and private community donors presented thousands of dollars in memorial scholarships to help fund the students' ongoing educational goals.

Honoring Our Student Veterans

The following SKYCTC students were recognized and awarded specialized scholarships during the ceremony:

  • Luke Enslow received the $750 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1298: MSG Tom Wernsing Memorial Scholarship.
  • Ryan Suders received the $500 American Legion Post 23: COL Robert Spiller Memorial Scholarship.
  • John Ross Terry received the $500 Cumberland Trace Chapter of MOAA / Joe Wright Memorial Scholarship.
  • Amber Brunson received the $500 Mr. & Mrs. Rhette Foust: Larry Roberts Veteran Scholarship.
  • Gregory Demetreon received the $500 American Veterans Post 130: SGT Glendell Skaggs Memorial Scholarship.

Community and Campus Impact

The Veterans Upward Bound program serves as a critical bridge for local veterans, providing them with the resources, tutoring, and community support required to thrive in a college environment. By partnering with local chapters of the American Legion, VFW, MOAA, AMVETS, and regional philanthropists, SKYCTC continues to build a strong network of support for military-bound scholars.
