Veterinary Technology Program now available to SKYCTC Students
New program opportunities will prepare students for careers in animal health care
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Are you interested in working with animals and pursuing a career in veterinary health care? Students at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) now have a new opportunity to enroll in Owensboro Community and Technical College’s (OCTC) Veterinary Technology program.
SKYCTC students can complete their general education requirements at SKYCTC while enrolling in OCTC’s Veterinary Technology program for their specialized coursework. Students will only need to travel to OCTC’s Owensboro campus two days per week for their Veterinary Technology coursework. They can also complete their clinical experiences and practicum in their local area, providing greater flexibility and reducing the need to travel to Owensboro as frequently.
The OCTC Veterinary Technology program prepares students for careers assisting veterinarians and providing care for animals. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning and clinical experience to prepare students for the veterinary field.
Prospective students interested in learning more about becoming a veterinary technician through this opportunity can learn more about the new program during a Veterinary Technology Information Session at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the SKYCTC Main Campus Welcome Center, 1845 Loop Drive, Bowling Green.
Laura Neely, DVM, OCTC Veterinary Technology Program Director, will lead the session and provide information about the program, educational requirements, hands-on training and career opportunities available to veterinary technicians.
Veterinary technicians are an important part of the animal health care team. Under the supervision of veterinarians, they may assist with examinations and procedures, perform laboratory tests, administer medications, monitor patients and anesthesia, provide nursing care and educate animal owners.
