BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) has awarded the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) Foundation a total of  $28,000 in grants to support adult literacy programming in Barren, Metcalfe, Simpson, and Warren counties.

The grant will help SKYCTC Adult Education continue providing instruction and support services that empower adult learners to improve literacy skills, earn their GED, prepare for college, and pursue career opportunities. The award is part of DGLF’s recent record-setting literacy grant cycle, which surpassed the Foundation’s previous high of more than $13.2 million awarded in May 2025.

"The generous support of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation allows SKYCTC Adult Education to continue providing high-quality literacy and educational services to individuals seeking to improve their lives through education," said Dr. Joda Johnson, Director of Adult Education at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College. "We sincerely appreciate this partnership and the opportunities it creates for our students. This funding will have a lasting impact by helping adult learners build essential skills, earn credentials, and pursue brighter futures."

SKYCTC serves as the regional provider of Adult Education for adults age 18 and older in Barren, Metcalfe, Simpson, and Warren counties. The program offers instruction in basic academic and workplace skills designed to help students prepare for the GED, postsecondary education, and employment opportunities.

In addition to GED preparation, SKYCTC Adult Education provides assistance with WorkKeys preparation and testing, English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, and U.S. citizenship preparation classes.

“Since the Foundation’s inception in 1993, our focus has remained on making meaningful investments in students, teachers, and the organizations that support literacy and learning at every stage of life,” said Denine Torr, Executive Director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “We are grateful for the impact teachers and educators make every day and are excited to have another record-setting year of helping expand literacy access for learners of all ages. These funds will help educators enhance their instruction and create opportunities that help empower students to reach their full potential.”

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports organizations that increase access to educational programming, encourage innovation in instructional delivery, and inspire a lifelong love of reading. Each year, DGLF awards grants to nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries located within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs.
