Merit and DC to Finish Scholarship

SKY Merit Scholarship

The tuition cost at SKYCTC is the lowest tuition in the state. This scholarship, combined with other state and federal aid you receive, may cover all or most of your tuition at SKYCTC.

Students are not required to submit a scholarship application to apply for the SKY Merit Scholarship. Eligible students will be identified automatically once the SKYCTC Admissions application, and the 7th semester high school transcript have been received.

This scholarship is for incoming first-time first-year students. It must be activated within 12 months of high school graduation and is not available to transfer students.

The SKY Merit Scholarship is available to those who meet the high school GPA requirements indicated below. The annual merit award is disbursed in the fall and spring terms (example: $4,000 award will disburse as $2,000 in the fall and $2,000 in the spring).

Merit Scholarship
High School Cumulative GPA Annual Merit Award
4.00 $4,000
3.5 - 3.99 $3,000
3.0 - 3.49 $2,000
2.5 - 2.99 $1,000

Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester with SKYCTC is required for the SKY Merit Scholarship. Courses taken at other KCTCS colleges do not count toward meeting the minimum credit hour requirement (example: a student enrolled in 9 credit hours at SKYCTC and 3 credit hours at BCTC would not meet the 12 SKYCTC hour requirement for this scholarship). It is the student’s responsibility to enroll in at least 12 credit hours per semester with SKCYTC. Students are encouraged to work with their college advisor to ensure this condition is met.

SKY Merit Scholarships will disburse approximately 4-6 weeks after the start of each term and final eligibility will be reviewed at that time. If a student is NOT enrolled in the minimum SKYCTC credit hours required, the award will be cancelled and the student will not qualify for the disbursement.

Students whose resources exceed their Need and/or Cost of Attendance may be subject to award adjustments. Refer to Overawards for additional details.

The SKY Merit Scholarship is automatically renewable for a total of four consecutive semesters (excluding summer terms) or until completion of an associate degree, whichever comes first. A student’s SKYCTC GPA is used to determine eligibility for the renewal award. The renewal award cannot exceed the initial award amount.

A student must earn at least 12 SKYCTC credit hours per term and earn the minimum cumulative GPA indicated below (per award level) for the award to be renewed the next applicable term. If a student’s GPA falls below that required for their award level, but is at least a 2.5, the student may qualify for a lower-level award. If the GPA falls below a 2.5, the student is no longer eligible for any level award.

NOTE

*Students who were restricted to 9 credit hours of enrollment for their initial entry term (as a result of the high school cumulative GPA or low test scores) must earn at least 9 SKYCTC credit hours to meet the renewal requirements. The 9-hour enrollment exception is for the initial entry term only. In future terms, the student will be required to enroll in at least 12 SKYCTC credit hours and continue to be credential seeking to maintain the award. Additionally, students who were approved for limited enrollment (less than 12 SKYCTC credit hours) for a specific term (due to specific cohort enrollment guidelines) must earn all attempted credits. For example, if the student is in the Radiography cohort and enrolled in 10 hours for a restricted term, the student must earn 10 hours to satisfy renewal requirements.
